β NIC CODES RELATED TO BIOMASS INDUSTRIES
π§Ύ The Code to Remember:
NIC Code is important to ensure the right recognition and avail benefits offered by the government to take your biomass business further.
β
Make sure to use Sub-class No. 38300, NIC 2008 to get placed in the right category for biomass-based fuel manufacturing and recycling activities.
| Purpose | NIC Code | Description |
| Biomass Pellet Manufacturing (wood, agri waste, Napier) | 16101 | Manufacture of wood in the form of chips, particles or pellets |
| Biomass Briquette Manufacturing | 16101 or 16102 | Manufacture of agglomerated wood products or compressed biomass |
| Bio-CNG / Biogas Production | 35201 | Manufacture of gas; distribution of gaseous fuels |
| Biofuel (solid or liquid fuel from biomass) | 35105 | Manufacture of biofuels including blending |
| Electricity from Biomass | 35106 | Electric power generation using renewable (biomass) energy |
| Agricultural Residue Processing | 01632 | Agricultural service activities for crop residue, biomass |
| Organic Fertilizer from Biomass Waste | 20211 | Manufacture of agrochemical products including bio-fertilizers |
ποΈ PROCEDURE TO APPLY / GET / ENDORSE NIC CODES
NIC codes are used in various government registrations and schemes. Hereβs how to apply or modify them:
1οΈβ£ Udyam (MSME) Registration
- Register on: https://udyamregistration.gov.in
- While registering, you can select one or multiple NIC codes
- For biomass pellet plant, choose NIC 16101
- You can update or add new NIC codes later via login
- Udyam registration gives MSME status, necessary for:
- Subsidies
- CGTMSE loan scheme
- Electricity duty exemptions in some states
2οΈβ£ Company/LLP Registration (MCA)
- During incorporation on https://www.mca.gov.in, specify main business activity NIC
- It becomes part of CIN (Corporate Identity Number)
- Can be amended via MGT-7A or INC-22A (Active Form) with the help of a CA/CS
3οΈβ£ Pollution Control Board (CPCB/SPCB) NOC
- NIC code helps classify industry type
- Biomass plants usually fall under Green or Orange category
- Submit correct NIC code in:
- Consent to Establish (CTE)
- Consent to Operate (CTO)
4οΈβ£ Apply in Other Government Schemes
NIC codes are required when applying for:
- MNREβs Biomass Programme (BioURJA Portal)
- PMEGP, NABARD, SIDBI loans
- State-level subsidies (e.g., Gujarat Agro Industrial Policy)
Always use correct and specific NIC codes to avoid rejections or misclassification.
π Summary:
| Action | Where | NIC Code |
| Pellet Plant MSME Registration | udyamregistration.gov.in | 16101 |
| Biogas / Bio-CNG Registration | MNRE / State Energy Depts | 35201 / 35105 |
| Company Incorporation | MCA Portal | Choose relevant code |
| Environmental Clearance | CPCB / SPCB | Use same NIC as above |
β οΈ Disclaimer:
The NIC codes provided are based on current industrial classification standards (NIC-2008 by MoSPI, Govt. of India). Always consult an official registration authority or legal expert before submitting documentation for MSME, MCA, or environmental approvals.
